Raised in the 1950's, surrounded by Jdubs saying The Big "A" was right around the corner... Ummm, just thinking...most of those, if not all, had their own home, mortaged or paid off, the husband 'Elder' working full time, the wife pioneering or considered a 'good' publisher. All the Elders and MS had cars and most wives had their own car too. Most of the congo went on vacations, wore new clothes, kept up with fashions. (This was Los Angeles. No one dressed dowdy). Young marrieds in the 1950's were buying homes. Some who had more money, had rental properties and investment properties, stocks and bonds. On the one hand, saying 'The End Is Near' on the other, putting aside money to fly to New York in 1953 to the Yankee Stadium big assembly, 1955 being special JW delegates to assemblys in Europe, and in 1958, almost everyone from my congo in LA, flew, drove or took the train to New York City to attend the Yankee Stadium/Polo Grounds convention.

In my congo there were lots of dancing parties, even masquerade, people in the circuit/district going to Pasadina Winter Gardens for ice skating and on to Van de Kamp's restaurant for hot chocolate afterwards, and also to the Culver City Ice Skating Rink which was every other Monday night, then go out to Shaky's Pizza Parlor afterwards for pizza, roller skating at the Roller Rama, beach parties galore, picnics at parks with baseball, lots of camping, lots of rock hounding, group horse back riding, volley ball games, tennis, lots of swimming at the beach, JW's private pools, floating on inner tubes down rivers, group outings to the LA Museum of Natural History and Museum of Art, etc, group outings to Griffith Park, Pacific Ocean Park (P.O.P.) in Santa Monica, group day trips to the San Diego Zoo also Los Angeles Zoo, Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm.

The point being related to the OP is the older JW's were saying one thing, but like the WT organization itself, doing another.

Bro Knorr, Franz and others, would fly into LAX (Los Angeles Airport) be picked up by a member of the richest JW family in the LA district in one of the familys car, always a new Cadillac, driven to their home in an up scale area (the singer Pat Boone lived around the corner) and being fully entertained... for free. This brother owned 3 grocery stores with his name on them. They even had their own brand name ice cream for a while.

There has ALWAYS been a do 'what we say, not what we do' JW policy in place. Schroeder, the GB member that I am sure, spewed forth words with the rest about the stupid 'higher education is bad' speech, his son Ben, went to University and is now a lawyer living with his lawyer wife in an expensive place in Florida. ??? The son went ahead and did what he wanted, to get the results he wanted for his life. Was he told by his GB member father, don't plan for your future becase 'The Big A' is right around the corner???

It makes me sick to think I was a true Believer and how I let it screw up my life so much.

Get out of her people, before they destroy your life... to enrich theirs.

in the last 5/6 years, i've read many threads, some made me laugh , others sad such is life , but was a very pleasant experience.

so i though it was time to introduce myself a bit.. im portuguese although living in the u.k. atm.

im from a (now) jw family and i have 2 sisters.

Thank you for sharing this side of your life. It is very interesting how you set the agenda that you had a prerented flat to go to if your parents kicked you out. What an emotional and trying time that day must have been for all. So happy for you that it has all worked out.

How do you overcome SHUNNING after leaving the organization and move on?

it amazes me how many of you have left it all behind, including family, brothers and sisters, friends and a full network of people.

i for one cannot find the courage to breakaway, and this causes me great anxiety and stress.

it eats me alive to think that if i open my mouth everyone i know will simply turn their back on me.

Myself, I am in transition. There are good days and bad. Shunning is demoralizing.

When you walk away from WT, it leaves a hugh hole in the tapestry of your life. It is possible to weave again and patch the hole but it takes time, with new people and new experiences.

It is like being in a disaster and losing many friends. You remember the good times and move on.

Even while I was in, there was so much back stabbing and gossiping that I couldn't take it. I only miss a few.

Keep posting and telling us how you are. Find friends in your area that are like minded or go for a walk and enjoy your solitude. Whatever you need to find true joy and happiness.

We all have just this one life time. Enjoy it. Be happy.

our contact has lead to friendship.

i had some fun and it was remarkable to see some reactions on this board, that there are no non-witness insiders.

interesting hospital encounter

my 94 year old jw dad is now in hospital--i visit him every day.. in the opposite corner of the ward were a group of visitors to an oldish chap.

my dub-dar caught words like kingdom hall and watchtower from the rather loud voiced woman i took to be the patients wife.

she also mentioned a dub by name ive known for 40+years--so i guessed they are in the local congregation to my dad.. as i was leaving--the woman said to me--"what a loving --dutiful son i am.

PS Can you imagine 40 years in the same territory as a Jdub watching other peoples family's having normal life and relaxing on their week end off work? What do Jdubs have to show for walking around the same neighborhoods talking doom and gloom, whilst their summer holiday consists of getting dressed up in a suit and tie to sit for a couple of days of listening to sales meetings 'encouragements', all on their own time and dime.

Mac, I am so GLAD you woke up 40 years ago and enjoyed your life without the controll of WT/GB. I wish I could say the same.

As to your OP, it all depends on what kind of dim wits sat in on your JC and how vindictive they are. After all it is just a boys club. Some men are nice and caring. Some men are power hungry dictator psychos. So in the later case, it doesn't matter who you are or what you supposedly did. If you are not in their close circle of friends, then 'forget about it'. If your appeal is turned down (you don't know that yet) and their big boy ruling stands, you bet they will try and make your life as miserable as possible.

It is 'favorites' protect 'favorites'. If you are not their type, they don't really care about you or what happens to you or the chaos that might happen down the road in your life.

Can you relax and get a good nights sleep tonight? At this time of night 11:35PM here, many people in North America are asleep and the UK is still sleeping except for the early risers.

I am sorry you were DF. It is such an inhuman and cruel action to do to anyone.

You have 7 days to appeal.
Someone else knows the ends and outs of this. I don't. All I know is what I read here is that in the Elder's Secret hand book, you can and may appeal. You have the 7 days from tonight (I believe that is the timing) BUT what they don't tell you, is that the Elder's will not tell you out right that you CAN appeal.
I think our friend 'Flipper' appealed and they took back his DFing.Flipper is on the West Coast and it is 11:20PM here.
I am sure there are others.
The UK will be waking up soon and posting.
